Life Cycle Engineering Analysis

Life cycle engineering analysis is a specialized process which is used for analysing those mechanical products that are involved with cyclic processes. A part of Finite Element Analysis, it is mainly used for calculating fatigue life of pressure component. In many parts of the world, cycle life analysis of pressurized components is essential as a requirement for provincial registration.

In any pressurized component, the maximum allowed stress in generally 2x to 4x the allowable design stress. Flange necks, Knuckles, heads, nozzle, and shell junctions are the main areas where the stresses are maximum. Not all of these loads affect the cycle life of the component. Stresses caused by flange seating loads or support loads do not fluctuate; however there are other loads that need to be taken into consideration.
